If you are planning camping or hiking trips it is important to make sure your pet is well protected. Following are some helpful tips in making your trip safe and fun:

  • Use a veterinarian prescribed heartworm and flea/tick medication, not over-the-counter medications, which can be very toxic to your pet and other family members.
  • Administer medications specifically as directed.  Inappropriate administration can drastically reduce the efficacy.
  • Make sure your pet is fully vaccinated.
  • Be aware of the dangers in the areas you are planning to visit.
  • Be on the lookout for rattlesnakes, poisonous spiders, and bees.
  • Don’t allow your pet to go into brushy areas.
  • Provide your pet with fresh water. Do not let your pet drink from ponds, lakes or streams.
